Workshop: Rehab in the ICU: Bridging the gap to recovery
September 10th, 13.00-14.30

This workshop offers a clear and practical introduction to rehabilitation and follow-up after critical illness, from the acute physiology of the ICU to the long‑term challenges captured within the Post‑Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS). The workshop will specifically examine the essential contributions of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy across the ICU continuum, including early rehabilitation and post‑ICU assessment, drawn from current guidance and clinical examples.  Through interactive discussion, real‑world examples, and participant‑led reflections the workshop will explore how cognitive, physical and psychological difficulties develop, how they present after discharge, along with potential interventions that could support recovery.

The workshop is lead by a team from the St Bartholomew hospital in London, UK, one of Europe's largest cardiac ICUs; Occupational therapists (Meadbh Keenan and John Ridgway) and Physiotherapist (Simon Hamilton)
